Feeder Calf Alliances
Feeder calf producers can work with alliances to enhance their business
competitiveness. There are many advantages to working within alliances
such as reduced transportation costs, improved market power and fewer
transactions. Most types of alliance have different production practices
and coordination levels (birth to slaughter). Below are some examples of
alliance programs that are offered in Missouri.

Risk Management

Managing price risk on feeder cattle is an important consideration for producers.
With the fluctuating cattle and production prices, there are ways of reducing price
and production risk. Careful hedging using basic strategies involving futures and
options can allow producers to protect profit margins, reduce income risk and still
enjoy bullish trends in the grain and livestock markets. The following links provide
educational material to further your knowledge on managing risks for your cattle
operation.
